The BFP Distinguished Service award recognises the significant service, over an extended period, that has had a meaningful impact on the values and objectives of the BFP.

This year the following recipients received the award as part of the BFP 20th Anniversary celebratory lunches.

Bruce Baker

“Leadership is the capacity to translate vision into reality.” Warren Bennis

Bruce Baker is one of the original members of the BFPPG, now known as the BFP, having been part of the Brisbane based cohort who first got together in 1996.  He served as the inaugural President on formation of the association in 2002, remaining in the role through 2003. As President, he was tireless in the promotion of member’s interests and the benefits the association provided.  This enabled him to significantly lift the profile of the BFP through media commentary leading to the media actively contacting him for the association’s opinion on various industry related matters.  Bruce also served as the BFP’s liaison with Government, Treasury and ASIC until 2008. In the initial years he had very rigorous interactions with ASIC and their interpretation of the Financial Services Reform Act and how it affected the BFP members. Bruce retired from the BFP Executive in 2008 and is today a retired member of the association.

Ian Donaldson

“A great leader’s courage to fulfill his vision comes from passion, not position”.”  John Maxwell

Ian Donaldson was part of the original group of Brisbane based self-licensed financial planning practices that got together in 1996 which led to the formation of the Boutique Financial Planning Principals Association Inc.  Since that time Ian has been an active and engaged member of the association.  He served as BFP’s second President, taking over in 2004. He remained in this role through 2005 and subsequently showed his dedication by serving on the Executive Committee until he sold his business in 2011.  Due to his experience as a former LUA President (LUA now known as AFA), Ian was able to use this knowledge to ensure that the BFP survived and thrived in its early years. He encouraged a close relationship with the FPA and was regularly heard telling BFP members to join committees set up within the FPA as this would ensure that our voice would be heard. He sat on the FPA Future Policies Committee, thereby leading by example. Ian remains an active Retired Member of the BFP.

Tony Gillett

“If you want to turn a vision into reality, you have to give 100% and never stop believing in your dream.:  Arnold Schwarzenegger

Tony has worked tirelessly for the BFP since its earliest beginnings in 1996.  He was instrumental in its establishment and to forming into a fully-fledged association in 2022 – writing our first Constitution document.  He has served on the BFP Executive since inception. He has held the position of President and Secretary and has chaired numerous committees including the annual conference committee and was an integral member of the committee which produced the recent rewrite of the Constitution wherein his corporate knowledge was invaluable. Tony has always been generous in supporting and advising his fellow BFP members and the biggest gift that he gives everyone is the sharing of his knowledge, vast experience and any tools or ideas he has. Today, Tony remains in the role of BFP Secretary.

Wayne Roggero

“Good business leaders create a vision, articulate the vision, passionately own the vision, and relentlessly drive it to completion.” Jack Welch

Wayne Roggero has been a member of the BFP since 2005 during which time he has held several roles including President from 2012 through 2014 and as Vice President from 2019 until retiring from the role in mid-2022. He remains an active member of the BFP Executive. He is constant in his efforts to ensure the Executive team is comprised of members that enable representation across the broad BFP membership group.  Wayne instrumental in developing the concept of annual BFP conferences and was conference lead for many years, returning as a member of the conference team in 2019 for the very successful Brisbane conference, and is now, in 2022, again leading the conference team for the planned virtual conference in September.  During his Presidency, Wayne was actively engaged with both the media and the FPA thereby ensuring the BFP remained an important contributor to the legislative debate.
